Kermit Hampton Younger

Mr. Kermit Hampton Younger, 97, formerly of Mt. Airy passed away on January 12, 2019, at Walnut Ridge Assisted Living in Walnut Cove.  He was born in Surry County on September 21, 1921, to the late Harrison Seymore and Myrtle East Younger.  Mr. Younger retired from United States Postal Service in Mt. Airy, and was a member of Community Baptist Church.  Kermit was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.  He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII, and enjoyed telling about his war stories.  He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tom Cline; a son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Ann Cruise; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Cruise; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; a sister, Treva Collins; brothers and sisters-in-law, Birchard and Foye Younger, Jim and Janice Younger; Pauline Younger, Trish Younger, and Barbara Younger; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Younger was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Gates Younger; a son, Wiley Cruise; sisters, Dorothy Mills, and Lena Younger; brothers, Randolph Younger, Bruce Younger, Pete Younger, and Rex Younger; brothers-in-law, Raymond Collins, and Thomas Mills.  A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Jessup officiating, and full military honors conducted by  American Legion Post 290 of King.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral home in Mt.
