Mr. Lacy McIver Atkins, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Atkins was born June 7, 1929, in Surry County, to the late Joe McKinley and Lillie Corder Atkins. He retired as a crane operator from John S. Clark and attended Fancy Gap Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Doris Bennett Atkins of the home; two sons, Steve Atkins of the home and his fiancée, Vera Toler, of Mount Airy, and Chris Atkins and his wife, Dalette, of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Lauren Dillon and her husband, Zach, of Mount Airy; a great-granddaughter, Caroline Grace Dillon; two sisters-in-law, Ann Atkins and Beulah Atkins, both of Dobson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by four brothers, Ivan Atkins, Clifton Atkins, Troy Atkins, and Carl Atkins. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow in the Quesinberry-Bobbitt Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
