Larry Dean Atkins

Mr. Larry Dean Atkins, 78, of Ararat, passed away Thursday morning, September 1, 2022, at his home.  Mr. Atkins was born April 13, 1944, in Surry County, one of four sons born to the late Moir Elzevan and Pauline Needham Atkins.  Larry retired as a superintendent from Legacy Construction Company in Raleigh.  He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Kevin Simmons of Pilot Mountain; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daron and Kim Atkins of Dobson and Adam Atkins and his fiancé, Kristi Bourne, of Pilot Mountain; two grandchildren, Anna Simmons Lowe and her husband, Caleb, of Mount Airy and Emma Simmons of Pilot Mountain; a great-grandchild, Clara Lowe of Mount Airy; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Dwight and Brenda Atkins of Ararat, and Gary and Joan Atkins and Nan Atkins, all of Pilot Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by a brother, Robin Dale Atkins.  A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grant Atkins officiating.  The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
