Mr. Larry Woodrow "Woody" Butcher, 69, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 20, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Butcher was born in Surry County, August 2, 1940, to the late Connie and Flora Hazelwood Butcher. He was a self employed carpenter and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Mrs. Shirley Jean Childress Butcher of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Annette and Johnny Moore of Wallburg and Fran "Punkin" Tilley of Winston-Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Terri Butcher of Mocksville, Trampess and Becky Butcher of Advance and Wendell and Marie Butcher of King; eight grandchildren Jordan Butcher, Shane Butcher, Jessica Kinman, Amanda Taylor and Sallie and husband David Tester, Misty and husband Chris Cammons, Adam Tilley and Shanye and Krystal Tilley; seven great-grandchildren Andrew Kinman, Alyssa Kinman, Khloey Tester, Kyleigh Tester, Caleb Cammons, Brycem Tilley and Daniel Tilley; a brother, Conrad Ervin Butcher, Jr. of Reidsville; four sisters, Eunice and husband J.C. Gilley of Dobson, Shirley Bowman and Dorothy Lewellyn both of Reidsville and Billie Grose of Dobson; several special nieces and nephews and a special friend James Poole. His funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday January 24, 2010 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home by Elder Joey Jenkins and Rev. Gray Kirkman with burial to follow in Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 7 to 9 pm. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Johnny Childress, 9122 NC 268 Elkin, NC 28621.
