Larry Benford Chilton

Larry Benford Chilton went home to be with his Lord on November 12, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife Betty Isaacs Chilton, his children Laura Blose and David Chilton, and his grandchildren Emily Chilton, Ben Chilton, Hunter Blose, and Eli Blose, as well as his daughter-in-law Ashley Chilton and son-in-law Chris Blose, a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Kenneth Cox, a brother and sister and brother-in-law, Dean and Deb Chilton. Many things about Larry will be missed and remembered, including his dedication to God and his church family, his love of his family, his love of nature, his carpentry skills, and his generosity.

Perhaps most missed and remembered will be his voice. Larry’s church family will remember his bass voice in the choir, his prayers echoing from the middle of the sanctuary, and his narrations during songs and cantatas. At home, his deep and jovial “Hello” of answering the phone, his gentle, loving “Betty,” and his prayers before meals were heard and still echo. Calling “pull” for a skeet shot, whistling and calling for horses, and of course, telling stories. “Now,” he’d start, or “You know,” and slowly roll out a story about his own parents, or his time in the National Guard, his time with any number of construction companies, driving around the country. He’d look right at your eyes, stretch out one long hand for emphasis, pause sometimes and nod, smiling at you, waiting for you to nod or get the joke. His own laugh would roll out from somewhere down low, echoing across the living room or the church – but even more memorable than the sound of Larry’s voice was the meaning of his words. He spoke from a life of walking with the Lord and caring for those around him; his advice, prayers, suggestions, and thoughts were all spoken with experience and care.
