Larry Duane Guss

Mr. Larry Duane Guss, 72, of 1800 Siloam Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Guss was born November 21, 1936, in Bismarck, ND, to the late Donald and Ella Hanson Guss. He was an engineer at Briggs and Company in Maryland for many years. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia Ann Selba Guss of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Duane Guss, Jr. and Tammy Guss, Dale and Kathy Swartz, and Jimmy and Sandy Selba, all of Mount Airy; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Randy Holiday, Crystal Gwinn, Stephanie Holiday, Paige Guss, Tiffany Johnson, Dale Swartz, Jr. and Kay Swartz, Tommy "T.J." Swartz and Veronica Atkins, Norman Vassar, III, Dawn Alley, Jimmy Selba, Jr. and Crystal Selba, and Lisa Selba; three great-grandchildren, Austin Swartz, Chase Swartz, and Kiara Swartz; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Donna Flemion, Betty and Ronnie Reid, and Penny Richards, all of Maryland; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Denny and Betty Guss, Kermit Guss, Pete Richards, and Darlene Guss, all of Maryland. In addition to his parents, Mr. Guss was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Guss; a granddaughter, Luann Holiday; and a brother, Loyd Guss. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy will be in charge of the cremation. There are no local services planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Carolinas Chapter, 4530 Park Road, Suite 230, Charlotte, NC 28209.
