Mr. Larry Clyde “Papa” Jenkins, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, September 12, 2021, at his home. Mr. Jenkins was born March 22, 1949, in Surry County, the son of the late Frances Haynes Ross and Lewis Alford Jenkins. He was the owner and operator of Larry’s Auto Sales. He was in the car business for more than 40 years. He loved to talk and cut up with people and he loved to talk about the Lord, who he dearly loved. He also loved his grandbabies immensely. His favorite hobby was golfing. He is survived by his wife, Emma Hodges Jenkins of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Buddy Jenkins and Tony and Michelle Jenkins, all of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter and her husband, Mindy and Chris Pack of Mount Airy; two stepsons and their wives, Brian and Whitney Smith of Dobson and Tony and Christi Smith of Lowgap; three grandchildren, Kolby Jenkins, Kyson Jenkins, and Kayden Jenkins; eleven stepgrandchildren, Maddie McDaniel, Katie Tate, Bailey Tate, Lydia Smith, Hannah Smith, Joshua Smith, Oakley Smith, Ben Pack, Anna Pack, Michael Pack, and Brandon Pack; two great-stepgrandchildren, Kenley Smith and Coalson Pack; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary “Sissy” Collins of Madison and Rita and Carl Lampkin of Williamsburg, VA; a brother, Lewis Jenkins of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Brenda Jenkins Combs of Mount Airy; three half-sisters, Maude Donathan, Jeannie Tate, and Rhonda Hawks; a half-brother, Jamie Jenkins; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his sons, Frankie Tate Jenkins; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Jenkins; a sister, Nelta Marshall; three brothers, Gary Jenkins, Timmy Jenkins, and Terry Jenkins; a half-brother, Mitchell Jenkins; a sister-in-law, Mary Jenkins; and his stepmother, Mary Ruth Jenkins. The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the Jenkins home at 1882 Sparger Road, Mount Airy.
