Mr. Larry Gene McMillian, 62, of Mount Airy, went to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, August 21, 2010. Mr. McMillian was born August 1, 1948, in Patrick County, VA, son of the late Zelma Bowman Mabe and Joseph Elvin McMillan. Larry served in the United States Navy and a was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Cana, VA. He was an assistant manager of Bojangles Restaurant. He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Easter McMillian of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Ron Eason of Las Vegas, NV; a son, Jonathan Scot McMillian of the home; a granddaughter, Bryanne Dennis-Eason of Las Vegas, NV; a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and the Rev. Terry Watson of Mount Airy; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug and Betty McMillan of Galax, VA, and Charlie and Christine Mabe and Robert and Kathy Mabe, all of Mount Airy; two stepsisters, Mary "Libby" Profitt and Carrie Mae Blevins, both of Galax, VA; a stepbrother, William "Bill" Byrd of Mount Airy; a special friend, Jack Butcher of Mount Airy; and his two special pets, Gonzo and Hope. In addition to his parents, Mr. McMillian is preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Donald McMillian and James Ronald McMillan; a stepsister, Nancy Duncan; and a stepbrother, Jimmy Byrd. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Solid Rock Baptist Church, Fishlake Road, Cana, VA, with the Rev. Roy Quesenberry and the Rev. Terry Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Solid Rock Baptist Church, 8193 Wards Gap Road, Cana, VA 24317. The family would like to thank his hospice nurse, Sabrina McKeithan, and Dr. Nick Chrysson for all their help and support during Larry's illness.
