Mr. Larry Allen Stanley, age 72, of Claudville, VA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 31, 2023 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Stanley was born June 2, 1951 to the late Wilton Allen and Lucille Epperson Stanley of Claudville. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Barry Stanley and Gary Dane Stanley.

 

Larry was a 1977 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (VT) with a B.S. in Biology. Upon graduation, he returned home to work with his dad as co-owner of Stanley Dairy Farm, Inc., Stanleys Beef Farm, and W.A. Stanley & Son fertilizer. Larry also owned and operated Stanleys Gun Shop in Claudville for over thirty years. Along with his brother, Barry, he shared a love of flying. Of the planes they owned, his favorite was the airbatic Citabria. As a firm believer in the electoral process, Larry served many terms as Chairman and Secretary of the Patrick County Electoral Board. Throughout the years, he was also heavily involved with local, state, and national politics. The last twenty years, Larry enjoyed his travels and many friendships made while working for Pike and Altec.

 

Larry is survived by his wife, Patricia Cole Stanley, and daughters, Nicole Stanley (Mount Airy, NC), Alex Stanley-Stretch and husband, Chris (Creedmoor, NC), and Elizabeth Stanley Jackson and husband, CJ (Edenton, NC). He is also survived by his sister, Regina Stanley Newman and husband, Tim (Lexington, NC) and sister-in-law, Patsy Gwynn Stanley (Ridgeway, VA). Nieces and nephew – Gwyndolyn Imler (Desperes, MO), Dr. Jennifer Stanley (Greenville, NC), Kayla Newman (Lexington, NC) and Justin Newman (Cary, NC). Beloved granddaughters Delaney Dane Jackson, and Madison Akers, as well as Madison’s father, Lee Akers. He is also survived by his trusted farm dog, Lady.

 

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Pastor David Heath.  Burial will follow in Red Bank Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Those wishing to pay their respects may also come by the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
