Mrs. Laura Easter Dawson, 77, of 175 Toast Road, Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem with her loved ones by her side. Mrs. Dawson was born June 12, 1933, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Edward Valentine and Lena Elizabeth Hawks Easter. She retired from Surry-Yadkin Mental Health as a van driver and was a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Angela Kaye Burton Jackson of Westfield and Darlena Lee and Wayne Parker of Fort White, FL; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy Ray and Pam Burton and Ronald Edward and Dawn Hawks of Hickory; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Opal and Wade Smithey of Wilkesboro; and a brother and sister-in-law, Burley and Margaret Easter of Dublin, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Dalfred "Ted" Dawson; a daughter, Alice Carolyn Easter; two sisters, Frances Moore and Betty Sue Shelton; and two brothers, Rubin Dale Easter and Harley Valentine Easter. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Gary Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Surry County Animal Shelter, Prison Camp Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
