Laura SueAnn Peery, age 33, died on Friday, December 16 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Laura was born July 3, 1983 in Mt. Airy, NC. She was married to Stephen Seth Peery of Blacksburg, VA, with whom she had three children: Ada Laura Peery, Evie Virginia Peery and Stephen Seth Peery II. Laura was the daughter of Richard Earl Johnson and Debbie Kaye Johnson of Lambsburg, VA. In addition to her husband, children and parents, Laura is survived by brother, Earl Edward Johnson and sister in law Marie Fillers Johnson of Johnson City, TN; brother Richard Tyler Johnson and brother-in-law Tyler Andrew Wilmoth of Mars Hill, NC; grandmother Lummie Laura Edwards of Lambsburg, VA, grandmother Lola Ann Johnson of Galax, VA, mother-in-law Linda Hypes Peery of Burke’s Garden, VA, sister-in-law Joanna Conrad and brother-in-law Christian Conrad of Lubbock, TX. Laura’s life was entirely devoted to, and built around, her family. With her husband, Seth she brought three beautiful children into the world. To her husband and children she was, and will ever remain, a source of inspiration as a model of love, compassion, efficiency, devotion and quiet diligence. For her extended family, as a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and cousin, she always made time to listen, visit, help out and show up, even when the demands of raising three children while working full-time seemed insurmountable. Laura was a supremely unselfish person, putting the needs of family before her own. Laura’s faith in God was strong and unwavering. Laura was a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Blacksburg, VA, and in childhood was raised to know God at Rocky Ford Christian Church in Cana, VA. Laura worked as a speech-language Pathologist in Montgomery County, VA Public Schools, serving Margaret Beeks Elementary School and Gilbert Linkous Elementary School. Previously, she worked as a speech-language Pathologist in Carroll County Public Schools. At times, she served as an adjunct instructor within the Communication Sciences and Disorders department at Radford University, was a clinical supervisor in the RU Speech & Hearing Clinic, and in her professional practice mentored multiple RU graduate students. She received her Master’s degree (’07) and Bachelor’s degree (’05) in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Radford University, where she was a Presidential Scholar, RU Ambassador, and Kirk Scholar, and was active in the Honors Academy and the department of communication Sciences and Disorders. She attended Carroll County High School where she was active in HOSA, cosmetology, and excelled in multiple sports. Visitation will be from 1:30PM - 3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 21 at Rocky Ford Christian Church in Cana, VA, with funeral services to immediately follow at 3:00 PM. Burial will be the following day, at 11:00AM at the cemetery of Central Lutheran Church in Burkes Garden, VA. A memorial visitation will also be held the following week, on Wednesday, December 28 at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Blacksburg, VA from 4:00PM-6:00PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be sent to the family at 4316 Preston Forest Dr., Blacksburg, VA 24060 to assist the family with funeral expenses.
