Mr. Lawley William Howlett, Sr., age 84 of Mt. Airy, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at his home. Mr. Howlett was born in Patrick County, May 14, 1923 to George and Sadie Gunnell Howlett. He was retired from NCFI and was an avid fisherman. Surviving is his devoted wife of fifty-eight years, Virginia Lee Inman Howlett of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Johnnie Jones of Winston-Salem; Rebecca and Ricky Bowman, Sr. of Ararat, VA; three sons and daughters-in-law, George and Debbie Howlett, Timothy and Cathy Howlett, Terry and Wanda Howlett all of Mt. Airy; thirteen grandchildren; five step grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and sisters, Pearl Pyles and Lucille Mears both of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Howlett was preceded in death by two sons, Rev. Dr. L. W. Howlett, Jr. and Bobby Howlett; a sister, Thelma Lee; brothers, Roy Howlett, Arthur Howlett, Arlis Howlett, Claude Howlett. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 29, 2008 at Indian Grove Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Ricky Martin and Rev. Tommy Floyd. Burial will follow in Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00- 8:00 PM at Indian Grove Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Indian Grove Family Cemetery, c/o Mrs. Norma Bowen, 200 Cook School Road, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
