Lawrence Edward Mayes

Mr. Lawrence Edward Mayes, 70, of Lowgap, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at his home. Mr. Mayes was born July 15, 1938, in Surry County, to Joseph Mayes and Gracie Hawks Mayes Blevins. He was employed with REA Contracting. Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Georgia Thomas Mayes of the home; a daughter, Mandy Mayes of Lowgap; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Daniel and Sandra Mayes, Joseph Mayes, and Mark and Debra Mayes, all of Lowgap; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Lena Layell of Elkin, Hazel Nixon of Mount Airy, and Nell and Lawrence Lowe of Dobson; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Curtis and Shirley Mayes and Howard Mayes, all of Mount Airy, and Bobby and Kay Martin of Lowgap. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mayes was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Mayes; and two brothers, Leon Mayes and Leroy Mayes. Memorial services will be private.
