Mr. Lawrence Jackson Pyles, Sr. age 77 of 445 Galloway Street, Mt. Airy, NC husband of Mrs. Pearl Howlett Pyles passed away Friday, February, 8, 2008 at Northern Hospital of Surry County, He was born May 29, 1930 in Giles Count, West Virginia to the late Wesley Greene and Parlina Elizabeth Higgins Pyles. He was retired from Bassett Furniture and attended the Salvation Army. Surviving are his wife, Pearl H. Pyles of the home, two daughters and a son-in-law, Rachel and Don Hutchens, Yadkinville, NC, and Gail Beck , Charlotte, NC, three sons,. David Pyles and Clark Pyles both of Inglewood, CO and Lawrence "Sonny" Pyles, Jr., Durham, NC, three step daughters and spouses, Susie and Donnie Wilson, Melissa and Stephen Jeffreys, all of Mt. Airy, NC, Robin and Billy McDowell, Salisbury, NC, and a step son and spouse, Tony and Anne Spencer, Mt. Airy, NC, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren and a brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Pauline Pyles, Mt. Airy, NC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pyles was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Dawn Pyles, three sisters, Mary Pyles, Violet Pyles and Macie Pyles and three brothers, Tom Pyles, William Pyles, and Wesley Pyles. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 10, 2008 at the Salvation Army Corps conducted Rev. Vladimir Strejcek, Captains Ray and Whitney Morton. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 443, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
