Layton Dowell Hall, 67, of Ararat, VA, passed away peacefully at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC, on May 17, 2022. He was born September 4, 1954, in Patrick County to Fathie Elizabeth “Toots” Gwynn Hall and the late Reverend Elbert Clinton Hall. Layton worked at Ballston Knitting for many years as long as his health allowed. Papa Layton loved his family, and to ride and tinker with Harley’s. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 47 years, Kathy Darlene Bowman Hall; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Jessica Hall; three grandchildren, Makayla Hall, Breanna Hall, and Lucas Hall; his mother, Toots Hall; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Delight Marshall, and Mary and Monty Venable; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mr. Hall was preceded in death by a sister, Cindy Renee Hall Richardson. The family will receive visitors on Thursday night, May 19, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00PM. There are no formal services planned at this time. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and to The Woltz Hospice Home for all of the love and compassion shown to the family and to Papa Layton during his illness. The family would also like to thank all of his special friends for all of the visits and love they’ve shown to Layton throughout the years.
