Lealan Elisabeth Cook Hennis, age 90 widow of Thomas Franklin Hennis, Sr., passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem, NC. She was born December 11, 1916 in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC., the daughter of Charles Herman and Mazy Ridenhour Cook. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. Lealan is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas Franklin Hennis, Jr., of Mount Airy and Charles Harvey and Mary Vaughn Hennis of Louisville, KY.; a daughter Lealan Lynn Hennis Ward of Advance, NC; a daughter-in-law, Gaye Tate Hennis; four grandsons, Thomas Todd Hennis, Charles Mark Hennis, Craig Vaughn Hennis, and Jon Hennis Ward; two granddaughters, Susan Hennis Uppena and Molly Ward Russell; and fourteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters Kathryn Cook Nunn and Mildred Cook Fischer; brothers Charles Herman Cook, Jr. and John David Cook; a grandson, Frank Dudley Ward; and a son-in-law, Velpo Dudley Ward, Jr. The family will receive friends and relatives for one hour prior to the graveside service at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy followed by a graveside service Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 2:00 PM conducted by Dr. Roger Gilbert at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 714 N. Main St. Mt. Airy, NC. 27030 or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC. 27103.
