Lee Stephen Smith, Sr

Mr. Lee Stephen Smith, Sr., 67, of 695 Trucker Drive, Ararat, VA, passed away Wednesday morning, April 13, 2011, at his home. Mr. Smith was born December 24, 1943, in Patrick County, VA, son of Maybelle Thompson Smith and the late Harden Moore Smith. Lee served our country in the United States Army and was the owner and operator of Smith Brothers Trucking Company, Inc. He is survived by his wife, Linda Payne Smith of the home; a daughter, Sharon Lynn Smith of Ararat, VA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lee Stephen "Dude" Smith, Jr. of Ararat, VA, and James Harden "Pete" and Kristy Smith of Mount Airy; his mother, Maybelle Thompson Smith of Ararat, VA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dale and Rick Odell and Drs. Jean Smith and Mike Berry, all of Roanoke, VA; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Carolyn Smith, Dan and Sylvia Smith, and Eric and Sheila Smith, all of Ararat, VA, and Ned and Yvonne Smith of Corpus Christi, TX; several nieces and nephews; an adopted granddaughter, Xena Lynn Gammons; special cousins, Harry Thompson and Reid Smith; a special friend, Ben Cumby; and a very special and caring friend, Judy Ann Keith. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. John Aldridge officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
