Lela Irene McCraw Byrd Doss

Mrs. Lela Irene McCraw Byrd Doss, age 98 of Mt. Airy passed away at Central Continuing Care Saturday, December 8, 2007. Mrs. Doss was born June 22, 1909 in Surry County to the late Hilary Roscoe and Texas Ardella Callaway McCraw. She was retired from Spencer's. Mrs. Doss is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James Donald and Mary Nell Byrd of Mt. Airy; one granddaughter, Cynthia Ritenour of Mt. Airy; four step-grandchildren; a sister Melba Shelton of Mt. Airy and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Doss was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Elmer Doss; a son, Arthur Byrd; a grandson, Michael Byrd; three brothers and three sisters. A graveside service will be conducted, Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens by Rev. Dwight Sechrist. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until the time to leave for the service. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to the donors choice.
