Lena Mae Edwards Childress

Mrs. Lena Mae Edwards Childress, 83, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at her home. She was born in Surry County on June 26, 1931 to the late Howard Handy and Clemmie Pruitt Edwards. Mrs. Childress was a retired waitress at Lincroft Inn in Lincroft, NJ. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Larry Boles of Mt. Airy, Toni and Dennis Hiatt of Mt. Airy and Robin and Bill Fredrick of Eatontown, NJ., one son Neil and Tampa Childress of Cana, five grandchildren Keisha Burcham and Kasey Hiatt both of Mt. Airy, Matthew Fredrick of Hazlet, NJ., Kevin Fredrick of Tinton Falls, NJ. and Luke Childress of Cana, great grandchildren Madyson, Mia, Maggie, Katie and Hope, and a sister-in-law Ethelene Edwards of Winston Salem. In addition to her parents Mrs. Childress was preceded in death her husband Benton Childress, two sisters Katie Lou Cooke and Ruth Glass, a brother, Everett "Tom" Edwards. The family will be having a private service at a later date. The family would like to give a special thank you to the special caregivers Teresa, Christine and Linda for all their love and kindness.
