Lena Joyce Penley Childers

Our precious mama and nana, Lena Joyce Penley Childers of Pilot Mountain went home to be with Jesus on February 23, 2023, after a brief illness at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

She leaves behind her husband of 55 years, Charles G. Childers.  Two children and their spouses, Tim Childers (wife Lisa), Kim Collier (husband, Steve); six grandchildren she adored, Brittany Walker (husband Caleb), Elijah Childers, Bo Brown, Leah Childers, Lydia Childers, and Brooklyn Brown; two precious great-grandsons, Brantley and Colton Walker; two sisters, Iva Hutson and Tammy Sands; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Pearl Penley; and two brothers, James and Gary Penley. 

Mama was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church in Ararat, NC and later joined her family by becoming a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall. Her Sunday School Class, Saved by Grace, at Woodland held a special place in her heart. 

Mama loved spending time with her grandchildren and being outside working in her yard. 

She will be laid to rest on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 2:00PM following a service at Little Mountain Baptist Church.

The service will be officiated by Brother Bill Watson and Pastor Tim Gammons.
