Lena Semones

Mrs. Lena Rae Johnson Semones, age 72 of Mt. Airy, widow of Mr. Lewis Monroe Semones, passed away Friday, October 13, 2006 at her home. Mrs. Semones was born in Surry County July 16, 1934 to Ulysses Lee and Callie Mae Venable Johnson. She was retired from Renfro Corp. and was a member of New Venture Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ronnie Willard of Mt. Airy; a son, Billy Semones of Mt. Airy; a granddaughter, Carrie Mae Hawks of Mt. Airy; a great-grand son, Keith Hawks; sisters, Mary Lou Holyfield of Ararat; Shirley Sawyers of King; and many very special friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Semones was preceded in death by three sisters, Vena Bennett; Thelma Holyfield and Ethel Sawyers and by a brother, Claude Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 15, 2006 at New Venture Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Larry Thomas. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home where her body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to New Venture Baptist Church at 228 N.E. Pine St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
