Mrs. Lena Bunker Stack, 91, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday night, July 23, 2023, at Ridgecrest Retirement Community in Mount Airy. Mrs. Stack was born July 12, 1932, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late Byron D. and Maude Key Bunker. Lena was reared on a tobacco farm in the White Plains community and graduated from White Plains High School in 1950. After her high school graduation, she moved to Winston-Salem and attended Draughn’s Business School. Lena spent many years in the business sector and retired as a supervisor from Wachovia after many years of service. She is survived by a daughter, Linda McDow of Winston-Salem; a son, Michael Stack of Yadkinville; four granddaughters, Lindsey Stack, Erin McDow, Alyssa Bates, and Brittany Stack; two sisters, Ruby East and Byrona Atkins, both of Mount Airy; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Wrenn of Winston-Salem, and Shirley Wylie and Mary Ruth Stack, both of Kernersville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stack was preceded in death by her husband, Ivy Lee Stack, Jr.; an infant brother; three sisters, Eloise Atkins, Marie Snow, and Nonnie East; and a brother, Wayne Bunker. A private graveside celebration of Lena’s life will be held at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Richard Loman officiating. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
