Ms. Leola Mae Phillips McMillan, 73, of 138 Adventure Trail, Mount Airy, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, at the home of her son and his family, David and Eva McMillan. She was born March 24, 1938, in Surry County, to the late Alexander Franklin and Lucinda Rebecca Sechrist Phillips. She was a home care giver. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Lee and Eva LaRue McMillan (just like a daughter) of Mount Airy and Craig Wallace McMillan of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two grandchildren, Nicole McMillan and Samson McMillan; her former husband and friend, Wallace C. McMillan; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Magdalene Sutphin and Brenda Walden, both of Mount Airy, and Beatrice and Matthew Fergusonof Rural Hall; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenwood and Lucille Phillips of Mount Airy and Arlis and Mary Lee Phillips of Cana, VA; "special friends," Ruth Watson, Brenda Payne, Verona Wright, Zelpia Shropshire, Delma Bryant, and Mary Beasley; "special nieces," Valorie Walden and Judith "Judy" Flippen. Ms. McMillan was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Phillips and Bernard Phillips. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 18, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Cliff Daniel, Joseph Dobson, and Matthew Ferguson officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home.
