Leon "Shoestring" Craig

Mr. Leon “Shoestring” Craig, 58 of Mount Airy, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 17, 2018 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.  Mr. Craig was born in Surry County on February 8, 1960 to the late Medie Esther Sawyers Craig.  He is survived by a sister, Daisy Leftwich; brother, Edward Sawyers; a brother-in-law, Rev. Arlis Thomas; a special aunt, Betty Jean Jones; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Craig was preceded in death by a sister, Priscilla Ann Thomas; and by two brothers, Horace Junior Sawyers and Herbert Craig.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at New Bethel Baptist Church at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Arlis Thomas and the Rev. Jonathan Barker officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
