Leona Sumner Hawks

Mrs. Leona Sumner Hawks, age 95, of Galax, Virginia, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 19, 2025, at Galax Health and Rehab surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Hawks was born in Carroll County, Virginia on April 6, 1929, to the late Phillip Frank and Clora Alice Carico Sumner. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Leona was a very faithful and stern believer in Jehovah God and his son Jesus Christ, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is her daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian Marie Hawks Roach and Mitchell, Linda Jewel Hawks, Sherry Leona Hawks Thomas and Marty Joe; sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil Dale Hawks and Barbara, Denny Frank Hawks and Virginia; twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law, Fern Sumner McMillan and Larry; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon Dale Hawks, two grandchildren, Paula Hawks, Joseph Frank Hawks; two sisters, Margie Sumner Bartlett, Josephine Sumner; and five brothers, Kedrick Sumner, Clyde Sumner, Phillip Sumner, John Sumner, Rudolph Sumner. A private celebration of life service will held at a later date. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
