Mr. Leonard Wayne Brown, age 75, of Dobson, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. He was born May 9, 1947, in Surry County, to the late Daniel Rudy Brown and the late Versie Noah Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Holder and Helen Holder.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Esdell Brown, who was his faithful caregiver for 23 years. His children, Tabitha Brown (Prince Phifer), Johnny Brown, Andrea Draughn and her husband, Ken; grandchildren, Kendall Draughn, Katie Draughn, Niam Brown, and Aksel Brown; several nieces and nephews; and many special people and friends. Mr. Brown served three years in the United States Army, serving 18 months in Alaska, and being promoted to Drill Sergeant. Mr. Brown loved the Lord and was a member and Deacon of Roaring Gap Baptist Church. He was always a hard worker who loved to cut wood, work on his farm and work as a lineman for Centel Telephone Company, where he was forced to retire after an accident he had on the job that left him disabled. For many years, Wayne would often ask why the Lord would leave him here on this Earth if he couldn’t physically move around like he used to, but God used him to share his testimony and knowledge of the Bible to encourage others daily sitting right in his living room. He loved to pick on people and loved everyone he met, big and hard. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, Pa Brown to many, and friend to all who knew him.
