Leonard Ray Hutchens

Mr. Leonard Ray Hutchens, Sr., 71, of Cana, VA, passed away Wednesday evening, November 7, 2018, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  He was born February 22, 1947, in Carroll County, the only son of five children of the late Ray Fleming Hutchens and Ules Leonard Hutchens.  Mr. Hutchens retired from N.C. Foam where he was recognized for numerous safety awards through the years, but the one he was most honored by was reaching the One Million Miles Safe Driving Award.  He was of the Baptist Faith.  He is survived by his sons, Leonard Ray Hutchens, Jr., Tim Hutchens, wife, Sherri and their children, Allison and Brian Lawson, Amber and Jake Rogers and their children, Isabella and Aaron, and Timothy “T.J.” Hutchens, Jr., Christopher “Chris” Hutchens and friend, Karen Reece and her children, Rene and Will Ault and their daughter, Brinley Jayde and Joey Bombe; sisters, and brothers-in-law, Carol Eaton and husband Delmar “Ben”, Sharon Hutchens, and Lucy Nichols and husband Jerry.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hutchens was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Hawks Hutchens; and by a sister, Joyce Marie Hutchens.  The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. David Sechrist officiating.  A private interment will follow.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Karen Reece for assisting the family for the devoted care shown to Leonard and the family during his illness.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association National Capital Area 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 400, McLean, VA 22102.
