Mr. Leonard Arby Utt, Jr., 71, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Utt was born April 22, 1945, in Carroll County, VA, the son of the late Leonard Arby Utt, Sr. and Alice Bell Towe Utt. He was retired from the automobile industry. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karly and Major (U.S. Army) Gabriel Morris of Washington, DC; a son, Benjamin Utt of High Point; six grandchildren, Ethan Morris, Riley Morris, Travis Morris, Grace Morris, Josiah Morris, and Wes Morris, all of Washington, DC; two sisters, Illa Bell Johnson of Charlotte and Lisa Utt of Cana, VA; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Mike and Jane Utt of Mount Airy, Jerry and Teresa Utt of Kings Mountain, and Belinda Utt of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Mary Ruth “The Commander” and Pete Bowman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Utt was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Gail Towe; a brother, Jackie Utt; and his canine companion, Deacon. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Cana, VA, with the Rev. Rawley “Dink” Haynes, Jr. officiating. The Utt family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is serving the Utt family.
