Leota Johnson Jessup

Mrs. Leota Johnson Jessup Age 89 of Mt. Airy, NC, wife of Junior Jessup passed away Sunday, July 14 2024 at Surry Health and Rehab. She was born August 8, 1934 in Surry County, NC to the late Newell and Mary Magdelene Lawrence Johnson. She worked for Dr. Dale Simmons for sixteen years, six years for Northern Hospital and retired as Child Service Coordinator for the Surry County Health Department. She was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church where she served on various committees. Surviving are her husband of 72 years, Junior Jessup of the home, two sons and a daughter-in law, Jerry Jessup and Jo Jones, Jeff Jessup and fiancée, Beth Watts, grandchildren and spouses, Jonathan and Kim Jessup, Jennifer and Joe Sebranek, Anna Jessup, and Zach Jessup, great grandchildren, Riley Jessup, Landon Jessup, Eli Jessup, Nora Sebranek and Jude Sebranek and a sister-in-law, Janie Johnson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jessup was preceded in death by her sisters, Lonnie Simmons, Delia Inman, Louise Knott, Barbara Jean Rogers and infant sister, Ada Marie Johnson, brothers, Moir Johnson, Frank Johnson and infant brother, Hersey Johnson. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by Dr. Jonathan Casstevens and Rev. Mickey Cogdill. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 12:30 pm Tuesday until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Bannertown Baptist Church Building Fund, 1834 Westfield Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
