Rev. Lester Ray Bryant

Rev. Lester Ray Bryant, age 90 of Mount Airy, passed at his home surrounded by his loving family on February 9, 2024.  He was born April 14, 1933, to the late Jack and Annie Bryant.   Rev. Bryant was a faithful pastor of Ivy Green Baptist Church for many years, he was a great role model within the community, and loved to tell others about Jesus Christ, farming was a passion of his for years.  He retired after 44 years from Proctor Silex and was proud to have served his country in the United States Army.  Lester was a very proud mason at the Round Peak Masonic Lodge for many years. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa “Sue” Haynes and Mike; sons and daughter-in-laws, Lester “Ray” Bryant II and Donna, Sam Bryant and Melissa; grandchildren and their spouses, Lester Ray Bryant III, Jenny Marsh and Brian, Kayla Richardson and Brian, Brandi Thompson and Jacob, Isaac Bryant, Zach Bryant, Michael Haynes; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Gough, Jackie and Gary Niston.  In addition to his parents, Rev. Bryant  was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maggie Bryant; two daughters, Linda Rae Bryant, Donna Lee Bryant; grandson, Jonathan Johnson; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Ina Mae and Cicero Gregory, Shirley and Homer Bryant; one brother-in-law, Phillip Gough.   Funeral services will be held Friday, February 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Ivy Green Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Holder and Rev. Robert McCrary officiating, with masonic rites by the Round Peak Masonic Lodge and a flag presentation by the VFW Post 2019 of Mount Airy and VFW Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. He will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.   The family will receive friends Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 6 – 8 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  The family would like to thank his caregivers, the community for all the love and prayers and help shown during Rev. Bryant’s sickness, his Ivy Green church family, his fellow mason brothers.  The family thanks the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the care and compassion shown.  Flower’s will be accepted or donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.   Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
