Mr. Lester Ray Strickland, 76, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday night, February 21, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Strickland was born January 25, 1945, in Wilson County, the son of the late Luther and Lizzie Farmer Strickland. Ray retired as a power lineman foreman from Pike Electric and was a faithful member of Friendly Tabernacle. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Rita Faye Goins Strickland of the home; two daughters, Patsy Strickland Johnson and Christie Strickland East, both of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Brandy Strickland of Mount Airy and Lester Ray Strickland, Jr. and Julie Strickland of Hamptonville; his grandchildren, Cyndel and Ryan Kelly, Matthew and Carrie Johnson, Heidi Johnson, Tryston Strickland, Justin Strickland, Jake Strickland, and Jared Strickland; a sister-in-law, Mary Sue “Susie” Danley of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law, Stevie Goins of Mount Airy; and his companions/fur babies, Baby and Roxy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Strickland was preceded in a death by a son-in-law, Chuck Johnny Johnson; a sister, Virginia Perry; and a brother-in-law, Billy Ray Danley. A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 25, 2021, at 3:00 PM at The Peoples Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Combs officiating. No formal visitation will be held; however, family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM and on Thursday from 7:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
