Lester General Tilley

Mr. Lester General Tilley, 84, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Stokes County on November 9, 1932 to the late George Tilley and Mamie Holt Tilley. Mr. Tilley was a retired Crane Operator from Smith and Rowe. He is survived by his wife, Alene Anderson Tilley of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Shirley Anderson of the home, Pam Goins and friend Wayne Lineberry, Angel and Jerry Morton all of Mt. Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Debbie Tilley of Thomasville, Rex and Jeannie Tilley of Dobson, Steve and Mary Jane Tilley, and Mark Tilley all of Mt. Airy, Marie Shelton Tilley of Roanoke, VA; twelve grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Chester Anderson of Rural Hall; ten great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tilley was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Tilley; grandchildren, Roby and Shane Goins; sons-in-law, Karo Anderson, and Billy McBride; a sister, Eva Harrell; a half-brother, Billy Lawson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Lowman officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 PM until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
