Mrs. Lettie Mae Shelton Badgett, 98, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Badgett was born June 15, 1911, in Surry County, to Arthur and Carrie Newsome Shelton. She worked diligently from the time she was fourteen years old at Barber/Allen Hosiery. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, who loved her family dearly. Mrs. Badgett attended Dover Baptist Church for many years. Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Gail and Tommy Hicks of Mount Airy, Polly Love of Pilot Mountain, and Nancy Nichols of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Judy Badgett and Don and Linda Badgett, all of Mount Airy; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and specials friends and caregivers, Gina Lawson, Ethelene Arrington, and Susan Harman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Badgett was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Elbert Badgett; two sisters, Alma Angel and Ima Marshall; and a brother, Bill Shelton. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 Monday, January 11, 2010, at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Monday from 12:30 until the time of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the tender care given to Mrs. Badgett during her time there.
