Lewis Allen Draughon

Mr. Lewis Allen Draughon, 88, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Draughon was born February 17, 1934, in Surry County, to the late Benjamin Edgar and Clara Agnes Watson Draughon.  Allen retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after many years of service.  He loved farming and working in his garden.  He was a charter member of Christ Community Church of Mount Airy.  Left to cherish his memory are his devoted and caring wife of 69 years, Betty Ruth Martin Draughon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Karen Draughon and Mark and Patricia Draughon; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Greg Hampson; his grandchildren, Dustin and Elisabeth Draughon, Zachary and Jenny Draughon, and Daniel Draughon and Shay Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Jane Draughon, Mack Draughon, and Hayden Draughon; a brother, Wayne Draughon; and a host of other family and friends.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughon was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Henley Austyn Draughon; two brothers, Oliver Draughon and Gilbert Draughon; and infant brothers, Lee Draughon and Roy Draughon.  The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dr. David Brady officiating.  Burial will follow in the Dover Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
