Lewis Edgar Jenkins

Lewis Edgar Jenkins, 73 of Mount Airy, NC passed away October 12, 2021, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Lewis was born January 24, 1948, in Surry County. He retired from Hilco Transport, Inc. of Greensboro, NC. Lewis enjoyed auto mechanics, fishing, watching NASCAR races, football games and feeding the birds in his backyard. He was a Christian man who told others of his love for Christ. Lewis was a proud father, son, brother and “papa”. His favorite hobby was spending time outside and working on cars. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Jenkins; his parents, Frances Haynes Ross and Lewis Alford Jenkins. His brothers, Larry Jenkins, Gary Jenkins, Timmy Jenkins and Terry Jenkins. His sister, Nelta Marshall; stepsons, Robert “Charlie Brown” Hall, and Michael Hall; and granddaughter, Caurin “Cori” Lonae Hall. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Jenkins Collins of Madison, NC and Rita Lampkin (and husband Carl) of Williamsburg, VA. Two sisters-in-law, Brenda Jenkins Combs and Emma Jenkins both of Mt. Airy, NC. Lewis has two daughters, Vonda Jenkins-Kimrey (and a daughter-in-law, Carla Kimrey) of Salisbury, NC and Vickie Jenkins (and future son-in-law, Richard Wentzell, Jr.) of Florida. He has four grandchildren, Zackary Hall (and significant other, Ali Lynn Daus), Ayden Woelk, Ella Woelk, and Carlee Jo Kimrey. Services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, N.C. The family will receive friends and family at 1:00 pm. Funeral proceedings will be held in the chapel at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Jimmy Ray McCraw officiating. Graveside gathering will follow at New Bethel Baptist Church located at 2826 Pipers Gap Road, Mount Airy, NC. The family will be sharing with visitors in the fellowship hall of New Bethel following the graveside service instead of the family home.
