Libby Mae Hiatt Shaw

Mrs. Libby Hiatt Shaw, 91, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, January 17, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Shaw was born April 29, 1933, in Carroll County, VA, the daughter of the late Arless and Mayola Marshall Hiatt. Libby and her husband, Roger, owned and operated Everybody’s Lunch on West Oak Street and served breakfast and lunch to the town’s textile workers for 30 years. After her husband’s death, Libby was the assistant manager at Hinkle’s Bookstore on Main Street for several years before joining Sara Lee Corporation as a customer service representative, where she eventually retired. Libby enjoyed working in her flowers and yard. She also enjoyed her animal friends through the years. If a stray happened to come by her house, she made sure it would have food, water, a warm place to stay, and a scratch behind the ears. Libby was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Tony Shaw (Rhonda) of Salisbury and David Shaw of Gastonia; a granddaughter, Nicole Moss (Chad) of Kannapolis; a great-grandson, Corbin Moss of Kannapolis; and a brother, Marvin Hiatt of Ararat, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Irving Shaw; two sisters, Pauline Hiatt and Josephine Jenkins; and two brothers, Timothy Hiatt and Lanford Hiatt. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Rusty Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Libby’s friends that called and checked on her for the past few years, especially Glenn and Frances Cook and Dot Marion.
