Mrs. Maggie Elizabeth “Libby” Chappell Smith, 71, of Cana, passed away on Wednesday morning February 10, 2021 at Twin County Regional Hospital.  She was born in Surry County to the late James Walter Chappell and Lummie Mae Webb Chappell.  Libby was an RN for many years and was also a nursing instructor at Surry Community College.  Left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughters-in-law, Travis and Brook Smith, and Doug and Joyce Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Kim Shelton; and six precious grandchildren, Ethan Madren, Eli Madren, Belle Smith, Ella Mae Smith, Samuel Smith, and Dmitry Smith.  In addition to her parents, Libby was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Smith.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 13, 2021 at Flat Ridge Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dennis Bledsoe and Rev. Oscar Hill officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Smith family.
