Lieselotte "Lilo" Comer

Mrs. Lieselotte Comer (born December 11, 1934) died peacefully on February 10, 2025 at her home in Bermuda Village in Bermuda Run, NC. She was 90 years old.

Mrs. Comer ("Lilo" or "Liesel" to friends) was born in Trier, Germany, to Heinrich and Katharina Kortzeborn, the second of three children.

She received her primary education from the Ursuline Nuns of the Calvarienberg Monastery in Ahrweiler. She later attended St. Mary Abbots School of Nursing in Kensington, London, England. There she met her future husband, John Woltz Comer, Jr., then a Lieutenant Intelligence Officer in the USAF.

They married in Scotland, with the happy union lasting over 50 years. During that time, the couple completed a series of assignments all over the world. Upon retirement, they settled in Dobson, NC, John's hometown.

Mrs. Comer had many interests: playing bridge, reading, cooking, swimming, and knitting. Her proudest accomplishments included earning Junior Master status in the American Contract Bridge League, a Master Knitting Certificate from NCSU, several trophies from swimming contests, and being twice nominated as Outstanding Volunteer in Surry County, NC. She taught many classes in herb culture, cooking, and arts and crafts. Of course, she was an avid UNC Tarheels basketball fan.

Upon John's death, Liesel moved to Winston Salem where she met new friends, including Joyce and Neal Johnson, Bill Nussbaum, Lora Crowley, Charlotte Eggers, and members of the German Club. She also enjoyed visits from old family friends like Logan Draughn.

Survivors include daughter Katherine Woltz and her husband Charles, plus many cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and Mitzi, her beloved Coton de Tulear.

Reverend Father James A. Stuhrenberg of the Holy Family Catholic Church of Clemmons will hold a memorial for Mrs. Comer's family and friends in the Chapel on the premises of Bermuda Village at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19th.

A graveside service will later be held for the immediate family at the Dobson Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside John. It will be officiated by the Reverend Katherine Earley.

Liesel asked that in lieu of flowers, to please send donations to the Surry Animal Rescue, a non-profit in Mt. Airy, NC. Checks can be mailed to them at P.O. Box 981, Mt. Airy, NC, 27030, or made on-line via PayPal on the organization's website: https://www.surryanimalrescue.org..
