Lila Lamb Reid Mowry, 100, of Waynesboro, VA passed away November 4, 2021.
She was born Saturday, March 26, 1921 in Augusta County, VA, the daughter of George Edward “Opie” and Rachel Trimble Lamb.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Lewis Lamb; her first husband, Clyde Palmer Reid; and her second husband, William Mowry; a daughter, Mary Fox of Waynesboro, VA; a son-in-law, Delmas Overby; and great-grandchild, Reagan Elizabeth Freeman of Mount Airy, NC. She was also preceded in death by step-children, William Vailes of South Dakota, Betty and Cecil Trainum of Waynesboro, VA, Robert “Bob” Bailes, J.C. Bailes of Waynesboro, VA and Shirley Pace of Charlottesville, VA.
She is survived by three children, Susan Overby of Mount Airy, NC, Frances R. Pike and her husband Larry Pike of Virginia Beach, and one son William E. Reid and his wife Gayle of Lyndhurst, VA; six grandchildren, Randy Fox and his wife Anna of OH, Terry Fox and wife Marie, William Reid, Jr. “BJ” and his wife Mindy of Middlebrook, Brandy Quintero and her husband Chris of Stuarts Draft, Andy Overby of Mount Airy, NC, and Beth Freeman of Mount Airy, NC. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Surviving step-children also include William Mowry, Jr., Brian (Earl) Mowry of Murphy, CA and John Mowry of Honolulu, HI, Jean Bailes Potter and Patty Bailes both of Waynesboro, VA.
She was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, member of the Session and was an elder of the church.
Lila Mowry held numerous jobs with Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, Crompton, Acme Visible Records, and Franklin, Denny & Ward Law Offices.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice, or to Second Presbyterian Church; American Heart Association; American Cancer Society; or the American Diabetes Association.
The family would like to thank the staff of Accordius for taking care of our mother for the last several years. Additional thanks to the Emergency Department of Augusta Health for their kindness during this time.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday November 10th at Second Presbyterian Church.
