Lillian Estelle Avara

Mrs. Lillian Estelle Hiatt Avara, age 87, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Northern Regional Hospital in Mt. Airy.  She was born on July 10, 1936, in Carroll County to the late Simon and Mary Harrell Hiatt.  Mrs. Avara was a very dedicated employee of Northern Regional Hospital where she worked for 50 years. She was a very special lady who enjoyed taking care of everyone.  She was a great lady with a wonderful legacy.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who will surely be missed by all who knew her.  Left to cherish her memories are daughter and son-in-law, Anita Smith (Stephen); son and daughter-in-law, Billy Avara (Peggy); grandchildren, Brandon Collins, Jason Avara; great grandchildren, Gary Lewis Jr., Lane Collins, Jacee Avara, Kaebyn Avara, Makadix Avara; Magan Lewis; and seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Catherine Easter (Julius), Jo Ann Foley; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee Hiatt (Deborah), Earl Hiatt (Angie), Charles Hiatt (Sharon); several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents Mrs. Avara was preceded in death by her husband Billy Avara; grandchild, Jennifer Renae Lewis, sisters, Elizabeth Leonard, and Mary Ruth Lowe; brothers-in-law, Robert Foley, Melvin Leonard, Franklin Lowe.  A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Flat Ridge Baptist Church with service conducted by Rev. Dennis Bledsoe.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time for the service at the church.  For those wishing to pay their respects you may stop by Mrs. Avara's home or by the funeral home from 10:30 AM until 4:00 PM on Saturday or on Sunday morning from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
