Lillian Leona Gammons Johnson Smith

Mrs. Lillian Leona Gammons Johnson Smith, 80, of Mount Airy passed away on Tuesday afternoon December 14, 2021, at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy. She was born in Surry County on May 8, 1941, to the late Adam Roy Gammons and Lillie Mae Taylor Gammons. She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church and was retired from Kentucky Derby Hosiery. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sandra and Ronnie Hall, Michael and Kim Johnson, and Kevin Wayne Johnson; grandchildren, Heather Hall Puckett and Kevin, Colton Hall, Alex Young, and Connor Morrison; great-grandchildren, Kash Puckett, Lincoln Puckett, and Athan Young; a sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Lloyd Barbour; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Sue Gammons, Gilmer and Lynn Gammons, and Leroy Gammons; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Walter Edward Johnson; her 2nd husband, Osler Gray Smith; two brothers, Bernie Gammons and Colon Forrest; two sisters, Imogene Axsom and Cleo Gammons; and by her stepmother, Bertha Lee Gammons. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Welcome Baptist Church with Rev. Barry O’Neal and Rev. Dr. Rick Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Grove Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 9:00 – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
