Mrs. Lillian Fay Atkins Hiatt, 80, of 2861 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday night, March 5, 2012, at her home. Mrs. Hiatt was born October 9, 1931, in Surry County, the daughter of the late William Howard and Lola Frances Mace Atkins. Fay was a homemaker and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is survived by her husband, Paul Nephi Hiatt, Sr. of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cynthia Poole and Rhonda and Robert Bradley, all of Mount Airy, and Engle and John Iorio of Greensboro; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Paul Hiatt, Jr. and Vincent and Gina Hiatt, all of Mount Airy, and Charlie and Julie Hiatt of High Point; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Rita Hiatt and Mae Mason, both of Mount Airy, and Aura Akers of Fancy Gap, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Steve Poole; a sister, Juanita Lowry; and two brothers, Bill Atkins and Jay Atkins. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Bishop Ray Riska officiating. Burial will follow in the James Monroe Hiatt Memorial Cemetery. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
