Lillian Ora Tucker Poplin

Mrs. Lillian Ora Tucker Poplin, 94, of 271 Pineview Drive, Mount Airy, passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday morning, March 20, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She had been in declining health for several months but remained in good spirits the entire time. She was born August 10, 1915, in Wilkes County, daughter of the late Rufus and Ora Adams Tucker. Lillian graduated from Ronda High School and attended Meredith College in Raleigh. She was the devoted wife of Robert Overton Poplin, Jr., former principal of North Surry High School, who preceded her in death in 2002. Mrs. Poplin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Airy, where she worshipped for many years and where she had many friends and acquaintances. She proudly assisted in teaching Sunday school classes and was a member of the Ora A. Jackson Missionary Circle. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Linville and Kay Poplin of Washington, GA, and Robert Overton "Bob" Poplin, III of Mount Airy; a granddaughter and spouse, Beth Poplin and Tim Higgins of Mount Airy; a grandson, Robert Overton "Bert" Poplin, IV of Richmond, VA; a sister, Oleene Harris of State Road; and many loving relatives. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Poplin was preceded in death by two sisters, Mozelle Shore and Birchie Billings; and five brothers, Virgil Tucker, Clate Tucker, Wayne Tucker, Colon Tucker, and Max Tucker (infant). A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with Dr. Roger B. Gilbert and the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
