Mrs. Lillian Ayers Scales, 94 of Ararat, Virginia passed away, Monday, March 8, 2021 at her home. Mrs. Scales was born in Patrick County, Virginia on March 3, 1927 to the late George Cleveland and Jesse Mae Childress Ayers. Lillian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. She was a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church while her health permitted. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 74 years, Joseph Clarence Scales; daughters, Sandra Hawks Thompson, Glenda Scales Pack and husband, Javier Martinez; son-in-law, Delman Hawks; grandchildren, Brandon Hawks and Christopher Pack; great-grandchild, Gracie Jolynn Pack. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Scales was preceded in death by her four sister, Ruby Marshall, Mary Willis, Betty Eaton, Polly France; two infant brothers, along with three other brothers, G. C. Ayers, Gaston Woodrow Ayers, and Leonard Ashby Ayers. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery at 3:00 PM with Rev. Joey Jessup officiating. No formal visitation will be held at this time. Moody Funeral Services of Mount Airy is assisting the family.
