Lillian Conner Turner

            Mrs. Lillian Conner Turner, age 92, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 15, 2018.  She was the daughter of the late Posey J. and Mae Moran Conner.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Turner; four brothers, Dr. M.C. “Cal” Conner, P.C. Conner, Leonard Conner, Moir Conner; and a great grandson, Jesse Sheppard.

            After attending National Business College, the various positions held included secretary at the law firm of Rush and Gentry in Roanoke; Clerk of the Trial Justice Court of Patrick County; secretary to the Chief Engineer, U.S. Steel operations in Gary, WV; and secretary, then Purchasing Clerk at J.P. Stevens, Woolwine, retiring with 26 years there.

            She was a member of the Woolwine United Methodist Church where she was active in various church organizations, serving over 40 years as secretary of the Administrative Council.  She was a charter member of the Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for over 25 years.

            Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Benny Wood and Stephanie and Terry Martin; three granddaughters, Wendy Sheppard, Alison Martin and husband, Kyle, Katie Bowman and husband, Michael; two grandsons, Justin Wood, Wesley Martin and wife, Kellie; eight great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; two great great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, a centurion, Lucy Conner; four nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11AM at  Woolwine United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Sue Terry officiating.  Burial will follow in the Woolwine Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Jesse Wood Sheppard Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Stuart Rotary Club, P.O.
