Mrs. Lillian (Big L to many) Virginia Inman Willard, 91, passed away surrounded by her family and made her journey to Heaven at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson after a short illness. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend, her sweet smile, laughter and giving heart will be missed by many. Strong will, independent, and never an unkind word spoken to others is how she lived her life. Her family and friends will cherish all the sweet memories. Hard work was no stranger having grown up on a farm in a large family. Retired from Spencer’s Manufacturing after 25 years, never missing a day of work. Retirement gave her the opportunity to enjoy her love of travel, bingo, cards, reading, word search puzzles and visits to family and friends. Mrs. Willard was born in Surry County on May 26, 1930, to the late Wiley and Cora Hooker Inman. Mrs. Willard retired from Spencer’s and attended New Home Church of Christ. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hardy; grandchildren, Tammy and Chris Simmons, Misty Willard; great grandchildren, Katherine Simmons, Gabe Simmons, Corben Kiser, Chase Kiser, Carley Atkins; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Willard was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Willard; a son, J.C. Willard; her parents, Wiley and Cora Hooker Inman; a sister, Bertie Eldridge; a half-sister, Annie Bell Bryant; brothers, Preston Inman, Coolidge Inman; half-brothers, Ernest Inman, Leonard Inman, and Vestal Inman. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Chatham Nursing and Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their love and care.
