Lillie Marie Riggs Godfrey

Mrs. Lillie Marie Riggs Godfrey, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, February 5, 2010, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Godfrey was born September 4, 1925, in Surry County, to the late Fletcher Banard and Rosa Childress Riggs. She worked at Mount Airy Hosiery Mill and Spencer's Inc. for many years. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and attended as long as her health permitted. She is survived by two sons, Donnie Riggs and Danny Riggs, both of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter, Marion Strickland of Greensboro; a stepson, Danny Godfrey of Greensboro; a grandson, Kaleb Kristopher Riggs of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Godfrey was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Godfrey; three sisters, Hazel Williams, Mary Bett Riggs, and Annie Riggs; and two brothers, Dewey Riggs and Archie Riggs. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 8, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. Burial will follow in the Midkiff Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until the time of the service at the funeral home, and other times at the home of her son, Donnie Riggs, 509 East Devon Street, Mount Airy.
