Mrs. Lillie Tickle Humphries, 100, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, at Heritage Healthcare of Elkin. Mrs. Humphries was born May 30, 1910, in Surry County, to the late Norman Luther and Mary Lou Wall Tickle. She retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Mrs. Humphries is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Clorine and Jack Bass of Mount Airy; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gilbert Lee Humphries of Mount Airy, Charles Luther and Shirley Humphries of Pilot Mountain, and Jerry Wayne and Rhonda Humphries of Toast; thirteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Bobbitt of Mount Airy and Samantha Phillips of Sanford; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Gladys Tickle of Sumter, SC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Humphries was preceded in death by her husband, Crawford Lee Humphries; an infant daughter, Mary Ruth Humphries; three sisters, Effie Felts, Bertha Carter, and Belva Jackson; four brothers, Floyd Tickle, Roger Tickle, Fred Tickle, and Roy Johnson. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Darrell Tate and the Rev. Dale Bass officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
