Mrs. Linda Marion Brown, 68, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Central Continuing Care, where she had been a patient since May 2008. Linda was born January 12, 1941, in Mount Airy, the daughter of the late Arnold and Helen Woodruff Marion. Linda was employed by F. Rees Company for 34 years before retiring to care for her parents, who were both in declining health. She was a member all her church life of Mount Airy Church of Christ, later named the Mount Airy Christian Church, where she attended until April 2008. Linda was active in the Dorcus Circle of her church most of her life and was greatly loved by those who crossed her path. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James R. "Rick" Brown of the home; her daughter, Vicky B. Key and husband, J.R. Key, and the gem of her life; her granddaughter, Lindsey Grace Flinchum of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Steve Wilcox of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Teresa Marion of Mount Airy; and a sister-in-law, Sheila Yearby of Durham. She is also survived by a very special uncle and his wife, Bill Joe and Irene Woodruff, whom she loved dearly; and a special cousin and her husband, Nancy Jo and Smith Goad of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Ray Marion. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Mount Airy Christian Church on South Franklin Road in Mount Airy. Services will be conducted by Brother Wayne Williamson, a childhood and lifelong friend, and Brother Ralph Sproles. Linda will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens at the foot of her late parents. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be directed to The Dorcus Circle, Mount Airy Christian Church, 974 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to express gratitude to the nursing staff at Central Continuing Care for the loving care and attention given to Linda during her time there, as well as to the nursing staff of hospice who gave immeasurable care and support.
