Linda Holyfield Mecum

 

Linda Holyfield Mecum was born to Jim W. and Ila Norman Holyfield on September 6, 1945, in Surry County, N.C. She passed away on December 8th, 2022, at her home after battling MAC lung disease. Following graduation from Surry Central High School in 1963, Linda attended UNC-Greensboro. She retired as Manager of Legal Services of NWNC Inc, with 33 years of service. She then retired after 11 years of service as Administrative Assistant of Women’s and Gender Studies, Wake Forest University. Linda spent most of her last years back on the family farm. Working in her yard and enjoying time with family. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and enjoyed Bible study with members of the Women’s Discipleship Class, until her health no longer permitted it. In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased in death a baby brother (J.W.), a sister and her husband, Doris Holyfield Wimoth and Charlie C. Wilmoth; brother-in-law, Gary Leon Reece; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

            Linda is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, James M. “Mike” Mecum; daughter, Susan Draughn Eads, son, Kenneth Edward Draughn; granddaughter, Madison Kelsey Draughn; Mike’s Children, Wendy (Bob) hicks and Michael Mecum; and grandchildren, Austin and Lexi Hicks; sister, Bertha Holyfield Reece; brother, Joe Roger (Carolyn) Holyfield  Also surviving are nieces and nephews, James Evan Reece, Lynn Malo (Linda) Reece, Ann Reece (Paul) Patton, Sandra Wilmoth (Gregory) Kesee, Rebecca Holyfield (Paul) Bunke; as well as dozens of great nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Linda and Memaw Linda. A Celebration of Linda’s life will be held Monday, , December, 12, 2022 at 7:00 PM at The Barn at Heritage Farm, with  Rev. Wallace Cole officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pruitthealth  Hospice. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Mecum family.
